Why So Serious...Blasphemous?

"Oh, to see the new movie! It's all the buzz and hey, EVERYONE'S going to see it! Yes, it may have a few slight "moral failures", BUT it doesn't really bother me and besides...I'm a strong Christian and the language nor the imagery will affect me..."

This is the sentiment and justification for compromising Christians everywhere for many movies and specifically the just-released Batman movie, "The Dark Knight".

If you are a professing Christian, there's no need to drown you in the many proof-texting Scriptures on this one, just listen to the voice of your conscious...if you haven't already seared it.

Does it bother you to hear your Lord and Savior's name blasphemed? If it doesn't, it should. Hearing blasphemy on the streets is one thing, but dropping your money down and paying to be bombarded by blasphemy and language for over 2 hours just doesn't make any sense and grieves our Lord. By sitting in the movie, you are supporting, commending and showing your approval of the movie.

According to Plugged In Online, a ministry of Focus on the Family (that doesn't necessarily tell the reader to watch the movie or not, but simply lists the content), says that characters in the movie abuse Jesus' name three times, God's name a half-dozen times (once, pairing it with "d--n").

Finally, I'll throw the old cliche' in here..."Would you buy a ticket for you and your pastor to see the movie?" If so, you probably need to find another church. If not, why do you live by a different standard than what you expect from your pastor?

If you come up to me and ask me what I thought of the new Batman movie and I give you the "head-tilted-to-the-side-I-don't-understand-you-RCA-dog-look", well...now you know why.
