I spoke with my father on the phone today, who actually happens to also be a real estate broker representing me in selling my home. As you may have read in previous posts, there was a family who looked at our home last Wednesday. My dad said that there was nothing about my house that they didn't like, spent 45 minutes to an hour looking around and were grinning ear-to-ear when they left.
The next day, my father called me and asked me if they could get back in and look at the house again. This was a good sign and, of course, I said, "sure!" At 6:00pm the man and his father arrived to walk through the house. They left after about 45 minutes.
Unfortunately, we have not heard anything from them since Thursday. My father said that he was going to call and "follow up" with them on Monday or Tuesday. I told him not to worry about. HUH?!? I explained to my father that if they were truly interested they would call him. They had seen the house a couple of times, knew the price, knew the location and all of the details and if they were truly interested in buying the house then they knew how to get in contact with him.
After I got off the phone with my father, I started thinking, "You know, this is a lot like someone that you witness to that understands the Gospel, has a realization of their condition before God, knows where your church is and has been given some sort of contact information (phone/email) and maybe have even 'prayed a prayer'. If they are truly 'interested', they know how to contact someone."
Yes, the good ol' "follow up" program where we spend lots of time trying to chase people down to become Christians. "Um, have you had a chance to read your Bible? Do you think you can make it to church next Sunday? Could you possibly set aside a few minutes today to spend some time with the Lord?"
Folks, if God has drawn/"called" them or is drawing/"calling them and they are obedient to the "call", we will not have to chase or drag them into church. We won't have to "follow them up" to make sure they're "interested". If they need more information then they know how to get in touch with a physical person. If they want to "repent and believe" and get in touch with the One who can save them, He is just a prayer away.
Bottom line..."Do we still believe in the transforming power and work of the Holy Spirit in people's lives or not?"
